Yorkshire Water is starting work this week on phase one of a project to renew 43km of water mains across Sheffield over the next two years, beginning in the Helmton Drive/Cobnar Avenue area of the city.

Contract partner Sapphire Utilities Solutions (SUS) will deliver the project to replace 388m of old pipes to improve reliability of drinking water supply, reduce leakage and prevent mains bursts in the area.
The work is part of Yorkshire Water’s £406 million investment to replace more than 1,000km of water mains across the region over the next five years. There are 18 mains renewal schemes planned for Sheffield over the next two years alone.
Shaun Chapman, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said:
“This is the beginning of our largest network investment for over 20 years to upgrade our infrastructure and deliver to our customers the service that they rightly expect.
“Replacing water mains in Sheffield will help to provide a resilient and robust network and reduce the likelihood of future bursts or loss of supply to customers. It’s part of Yorkshire Water’s largest ever investment over the next five years, which will deliver a range of benefits that right for our customers and right for the environment.”
The mains replacement programme is part of Yorkshire Water’s largest ever environmental investment of £8.3 billion, which includes:
- £1.5 billion to reduce storm overflows into the region’s watercourses
- £360 million to prevent nutrient pollution in watercourses
- £327 million rolling out smart meters to help customers save water and reduce their bills
- £51 million to increase asset resilience
- £98 million to install water quality monitors in rivers
- £75 million for environmental protection and improvements
- £99 million to improve drinking water quality

Hundreds of jobs, opportunities, skills training and support are on offer next month in Leicester, as Severn Trent is set to host Big Boost for Leicester at the central, Leicester Tigers ground, Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium on Thursday 1st May 2025 between 10am and 2pm.

A first-time hosting in Leicester, Severn Trent’s successful Big Boost events across the Midlands including Derby, Coventry and Birmingham have welcomed thousands of job seekers or people looking for support that has resulted in jobs, or a boost to the confidence when it comes to their CV or interview skills.
More than 20 local employers are set to join the water company including Leicestershire Police, MWH Treatment and Army Jobs as organisations and businesses are coming together in getting more people across the city into work. Any employer with work who’d like to recruit for their jobs free alongside Severn Trent are also encouraged to get in touch.
Alongside hundreds of job opportunities, people who attend can also make use of its free interview training using virtual reality and A.I, as well as CV workshops – along with cost-of-living support and help with water bills – making it an event not to be missed out on.
Jo Brookes, from Societal Events Officer at Severn Trent said:
“This is the first time we’re hosting this event in Leicester, and from our work already across the city we know there’s lots of potential and opportunities to offer local people jobs and support.
“These events are about connecting people to what opportunities are out there and we’re really looking forward to being joined by some great employers across the city.
“If people aren’t looking for jobs though, there’s still plenty to gain from the event – as we’re offering free employment skills, help with CV’s, interview practice as well as cost of living help and support – so really is something for everyone.”
The Big Boost is an extension of the work Severn Trent is already doing in the city, where the water company has recently recruited for a brand-new call centre.
The event builds on the company’s work in region, where it first launched a 10-year plan to support 100,000 people who are at risk of water poverty by tackling one of the underlying causes- unemployment.

Uisce Éireann is getting ready to start work on a major water network upgrade in Athlone to support future development within the town.

The project will see over 2.5 kilometres of water main upgraded – it will also improve the capacity and performance of the existing water network.
Site investigation works have already commenced with the main construction works, which involve the upgrading and upsizing of the watrrmains, currently planned to commence in early Summer.
The project will take approximately six months to complete and will be carried out in phases by Coffey Construction on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
Commenting on the benefits of the upgrades to the town of Athlone, Donal O’Connor, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said:
"These upgrades will ensure that the water network is fit for purpose to support sustainable growth and development while also improving the resilience of the drinking water network enabling communities to thrive. We’d like to thank the people of Athlone in advance for their patience and support as we finalise the design and carry out these critical works.”
The vital upgrades are being delivered through Uisce Éireann’s Growth and Development Programme, a national programme of targeted investment to increase the capacity of water and wastewater infrastructure to enable social and economic growth, including the delivery of essential housing.

Everflow, the UK’s leading multi-utility provider for businesses, drove double figure revenue growth in 2024 and saw the business further diversify its service offering by entering the telecommunications market.

Revenues increased by 21% to over £186 million while its EBITDA surged 572% from 2023 to £5 million. Everflow’s customer base grew by 16%, up from 94,431 in 2024 to 110,411 in 2025 and maintained healthy customer retention rates of approximately 98%.
As the UK’s fastest growing water supplier and the first to go carbon neutral, Everflow has continued to gain market share in the sector, overtaking two incumbent suppliers for the first time to become the 5th largest water supplier.
Following the successful launch of Everflow’s Refuse services and with the aim of simplifying utilities for SMEs by bringing services under one roof, Everflow introduced its Connectivity services in the year, with a suite of flexible broadband and phone products that can be tailored to business’ needs.
Everflow’s strong performance sits against a backdrop of increasing financial pressures for SMEs, with employers’ national insurance contributions rising, alongside higher minimum wages and a cost-of-living crisis.
Craig Dallison, CEO, Everflow commented:
“Everflow launched with the ambition of making utilities simpler for businesses, challenging the status quo with a customer-centric service that offers greater transparency and competition. Our growth and customer retention rates are testament to the support and innovative solutions we offer businesses that set us apart from other providers. As we scale and expand our offering, proprietary technology will become increasingly core to improving the responsiveness of our services, to continue saving businesses time and money.“
As the business looks to its next phase of growth, it has appointed Paul Lucherini to the role of Chief Commercial Officer. He will be responsible for driving long-term sustainable growth with a focus on enhancing Everflow’s strategic direction, optimising existing products, and expanding into new markets.
Craig Dallison said Paul Lucherini’s background in scaling businesses, optimising go-to-market strategies and mergers and acquisitions positioned him well for Everflow’s next phase of expansion.
He has held senior leadership roles in high-growth startups and large enterprises, with experience in driving revenue growth, scaling businesses, and delivering strategic transformations across SaaS, eCommerce, technology, and infrastructure sectors.
Feritech Global, an advanced engineering company based in Falmouth UK, has appointed a new Managing Director to lead the company in its next stage of development.
