Regulation and Legislation
Ofwat has published guidance on making submissions to the Regulators Alliance for Progressing Infrastructure Development (RAPID) under the gated process for strategic regional water resource solutions proposed by water companies.
The chief executive of the Environment Agency, Sir James Bevan says that better regulation, not deregulation, is needed to protect the environment and boost the economy - but the EA is warning that it lacks both “powers and resources” to carry out its work.
Ofwat has set out the reasons for its decision to modify the licences of five water companies to give effect to its Direct Procurement for Customers (DPC) initiative.
The National Infrastructure Commission is calling on both Government and the water sector to keep up the momentum in 2021 on water resource planning.
A research project to help water companies provide the evidence base that influences the next regulatory price review process has got underway.
- Environment Agency – new consultation on water stress to inform decisions on compulsory metering by water companies
- Ofwat PR19 appeals – more institutional investors submit concerns to Competition & Markets Authority
- Ofwat on PR19 appeals - consumer voice “drowned out” and submissions increasingly “dominated by well-resourced company and investor voice”
- Ofwat tells CMA - PR19 appeals ”dominated by the well-resourced company and investor voice"
