The Department for Food Environment and Rural Affairs (Defra) is planning to carry out a new survey of public attitudes to the environment.

Defra has gone out to tender with a contract for the work which is worth an estimated £1.5 million.

The Department requires the research which aims to understand public awareness, attitudes, and behaviour in relation to the core policy remit of the Department.

In order for trends in data to be monitored over time, Defra undertook an initial survey wave as a pilot project in 2018/19. Following the completion of the pilot, the intention is for future survey waves to be commissioned, building upon the lessons learned and data captured, to progress this project over future years.

The Defra survey on attitudes to the environment will provide data on public attitudes which can then be embedded into the development and communication of policies, and shape the work which Defra undertakes.

The survey is intended to fill existing evidence gaps which have been identified through a review of existing surveys commissioned both through Defra and through other government departments.

Currently proposal is for an initial contract for 2 years with an option to extend on an annual basis thereafter for a maximum of a further 3 years.

Time limit for receipt of tenders or requests to participate is 11th October 2019 – click here to access the tender documentation
