Portsmouth Water has awarded a £3 million design services contract for its £106 million flagship Havant Thicket winter storage reservoir project.

Construction work is anticipated to start in 2024 on the winter storage reservoir at Havant Thicket, the first new strategic water resource in the South East for decades, for completion by 2029. The project is the product of collaborative regional water planning and forms a key step in increasing water resilience in the South East.

Atkins Ltd, one of five firms in the bidding for the design contract, is a member of the Canadian-headquartered SNC-Lavalin Group, which acquired Atkins in July 2017.

Aecom Ltd, Atkins Ltd and Stantec Ltd have all been awarded £1 million contracts, three of five firms in the bidding for the work.

Earlier this year in April 2019 Portsmouth Water awarded a £14m Principal Designer contract for the project to Atkins.
