Extreme Weather
The Environment Agency is warning communities to stay vigilant while flood risk continues for the next few days in parts of England, with ongoing flooding expected in some areas due to recent extreme weather and some further flooding possible as more rain is expected.
A £6 million project which reduced flood risks to thousands of North Tyneside residents has won four separate awards this month.
The Environment Agency has announced that the Boston Barrier flood gate is now fully operational and ready to give an enhanced level of flood protection to over 13,000 homes and businesses in the town.
Reservoir levels above Hebden Bridge will be lowered once again this winter, as one part of a range of measures put in place to help protect the town from flooding.
The Environment Agency has invested £10 million to improve flood defences since Storm Desmond wreaked havoc across Northumberland five years ago – and is due to spend a further £10 million over the next six years.
