A new report by the National Audit Office (NAO) finds that while the government is on track to achieve its target for better protecting 300,000 more homes from flooding by March 2021, it does not have a comprehensive measure of its progress in reducing the overall level of flood risk across England.
Proposals to create a flood storage area on the River Foss north of Strensall have been approved by York City Council’s planning committee.
The Environment Agency is progressing its work on the £30 million Flood Alleviation Scheme and continuing to work on the final design for the scheme, which aims to protect thecommunities in Coggeshall, Feering and Kelvedon from further flooding.
Part of the Trans Pennine Trail is re-opening in Hull after an upgrade to flood defences on the Victoria Dock Village western frontage.
The Environment Agency has announced that flood defences across South Yorkshire, damaged by the November 2019 floods, have been repaired or have temporary repairs or measures in place for winter, as part of a regional flood recovery programme.
