Regulation and Legislation
The Government is considering extending a new economic Growth Duty to Ofwat which would see the water sector regulator required to “have regard to the desirability of promoting economic growth” when carrying out core functions.
The Ofwat-led Regulators’ Alliance for Progressing Infrastructure Development (RAPID) has acknowledged that there are areas where it needs to improve its performance, following feedback from stakeholders in its annual stakeholder survey for 2021- 2022.
The House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee has launched a new inquiry into the current and potential future role of natural capital in the green economy, and the Government’s proposals to increase private investment in measures to support nature recovery.
Ofwat has launched a new consultation on its proposals to develop a new £100 million fund to help save water - the water efficiency fund was confirmed in the final methodology for the 2024 price review.
Ofwat has launched a consultation on new guidance for water companies setting out how they should support their customers who require extra help in accessing water services.
- Ofwat makes three senior director appointments to strengthen senior leadership team
- Ofwat CEO describes Thames Water as a company with “deep-rooted problems of persistent poor performance and too much debt”
- Chris Walters appointed as executive member to Ofwat Board
- Ofwat allows Portsmouth Water to maintain one Issuer Credit Rating with a single credit ratings agency rather than two
